A little late, but I wanted to upload a couple photos of the girls in front of their dolls.
Also, just for a frame of reference, here is last year’s pic as well.
The Bovaird Twins
Today is girls day in Japan and the traditional dish is Chirashizushi. Qumi made an awesome anpanman version tonight with eggs and salmon. Pretty cool!
雛祭り (Girl’s Day) is fast approaching and its time to get ready! The festival is on March 3rd, but you start setting up now. Qumi’s friend was extremely generous and sent the girls a beautiful doll set. The idea is that the dolls are setup each year for several weeks prior to the festival. The dolls stay with us until the girls get married and move out, at which point the girls continue the tradition.
The set is very detailed and needs to be assembled in a certain way. The dolls are laid out on a red carpet, with a lacquer and tatami base. There is a gold screen, lanterns and flowers in the background.
You need to wear gloves when working with the dolls as they are very delicate and need to last forever. Tying the hat on was probably the hardest part.
Here is the whole set.
A close up of each set. The dolls are the same, but the kimono’s are different. I love that the male doll comes with a katana that comes out of the sheath.
