Birthdays Galore

We celebrated a few birthdays this week.  The girls turned 2 months on the same day I turned 444 months.  Grandma’s birthday is today and Fu-chan’s is coming up soon. We enjoyed a quiet little party at home with ton’s of Mexican food and an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins.

And the cake!

Everyone got their turns to hold the babies, it was really nice. I got to take a short break and enjoy some champagne and beer. I need to get them all back again soon 🙂

Grandma’s coming back

Grandma is on a plane from Japan as I write this, unfortunately though she is delayed 3 hours and will get here around 3am. Qumi and I are so excited to be able to get some additional help. There is a chance that Qumi will be able to actually take a nap during the day tomorrow.

Over the long weekend (Happy Hari Raya Puasa) we packed up the girls and headed down to meet some friends at Harry’s. It really is refreshing to get out of the house on the weekend, even if its only a 5 minute walk.

My birthday is coming up on Monday, so as a present, Qumi decided to give me 16 hours of “no responsibility”. That means I get to go out on Friday and have way too much to drink and sleep without the baby monitor next to my head. I doubt that will happen, and my guess is I am back home by 10pm in time for Kristin’s late night feeding.

Waiting for sleep

The girls are about 7 weeks old now, so that means 7 weeks without sleep. Everyone keeps assuring me that this is going to end at about 3 months or so, but I am not convinced.

Today was the girls first set of shots, BCM and Hep B. Kaitlin was up first and wow was she screaming, so much so that Kristin started screaming out of sympathy. The shots were over quickly, but she still wasn’t happy. Kristin wasn’t any better, she screamed just as loud and just as long. Luckily the girls were also hungry at the same time, so a quick bottle right after and they were just good as new.

Qumi has been working day and night to take care of these girls, they are a handful. She has been so great for me, allowing me to sleep most of the nights and she deserves a break now and then. Here she is with the girls taking a quick nap between feeds.

One bottle for me, one bottle for Kristin! One bottle for me, Kristin was still on her first. One more bottle for me, and she was already sleeping. Its great to take them down to the local mall and have a beer and some lunch without them screaming the whole time.

What smells funny?

Family outing, but not to the doctors office

So far, everytime we packed the kids up to leave the house, it was for a doctor appointment – not today. Since its National Day in Singapore, I have the day off and decided to get up and head down for a late breakfast at the local coffee shop. As expected of new parents we packed up everything they might need and then some, loaded up the stroller and headed down the hill to Novena Velocity Mall. We found a nice little table with plenty of space to put the double long stroller beside and ordered. The food was just ok, and the Iced Tea is exactly the same as it usually is, but it was nice to be out of the house – all four of us.

We got through breakfast and even had a little more time to share a piece of cheesecake, then like a storm in Singapore, it all turned bad. Katilin started first and so I grabbed the stroller and went for a quick spin around the mall – didn’t help. Qumi then decided to feed her a bit – didn’t help. I grabbed her and headed to the bathroom for a quick change, of course there was none of those handy koala changing tables when I needed it – also didn’t stop her from crying. And that was when Kristin started…

At this point we decided to cut our losses and run down to the market to pick up some food for dinner. Qumi wound up driving them all around the market to try to keep them calm, while I picked up things for tonight (Steak, yum!).

The whole two hour outing was fun, but exhausting. This weekend is another day and can’t wait to try again – perhaps a full lunch on Saturday ♥
